EqualityMaine Seeks Program Coordinator

Position Description
EqualityMaine has an immediate, full-time job opening for a Program Coordinator. We are looking for an energetic and self-motivated individual to join our efforts to defend and advance full equality for LGBTQ+ people in Maine. The position will be based in Portland and will report to the Program Director.

About EqualityMaine
Founded in 1984, EqualityMaine is the voice of public education and advocacy for LGBTQ+ people in Maine. As part of a broader social justice movement, we work in coalition with organizations in Maine and around the country. EqualityMaine currently employs five full-time staff.

About the Position
Under the supervision of EqualityMaine’s Program Director, the Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the successful planning, organization, and implementation of educational and social programs for SAGE Maine (services and advocacy for LGBTQ+ older adults), which includes outreach and communication. Additionally the Program Coordinator will support EqualityMaine’s youth initiatives and safe schools conferences, professional development opportunities, and other organization-wide programs, such as events, fundraising, and advocacy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships
  • Maintain records pertaining to program activities.
  • Prepare financial reports and budgets
  • Supervise program interns and volunteers.
  • Schedule workflow, coordinate the activities, and set priorities.
  • Manage marketing and outreach to the community.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant requests and funding continuation from outside sponsors.

Other Responsibilities
The Program Coordinator will work closely with EqualityMaine staff, the SAGE Maine Advisory Committee, community members, and coalition partners to ensure they design and complete tasks that reflect the mission and vision of EqualityMaine. The Program Coordinator will also identify potential funding needs, draft grant requests, and develop ideas to market programs to the desired target audience. In consultation with the Program Director, the coordinator may also be responsible for hiring consultants and renting spaces, equipment, or other supplies needed to carry out program events.

  • Must be passionate about LGBTQ+ equality. Prior experience working in LGBTQ+ community is strongly desired. 
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.

Compensation: Salary range is $33,000 - $41,000 and will be based on lived and learned experience. Benefits include paid time off, individual employer-provided health insurance as well as vision and dental insurance, and a retirement plan with employer contribution.
