On Wednesday, September 12, 2018, restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, pubs and eateries throughout the state are invited to join us for a day of giving to support EqualityMaine’s work toward full equality for LGBTQ+ Mainers.

Our community is facing unprecedented attacks at every level. 8 in 10 LGBTQ+ youth report increased instances of bullying and harassment at school since the 2016 election. Transgender Mainers are facing discrimination, harassment and violence at alarming rates. And, opponents of equality are more emboldened than ever in their efforts to take away the rights that we’ve worked so hard to achieve.

At a time when our opposition is arguing that businesses should have the right to refuse service to LGBTQ+ people, it is critical to show Mainers that they are welcome, safe, supported and loved in their community. By opening your doors and participating in Dine OUT for Equality, you are sending a loud and clear message that LGBTQ+ Mainers are welcomed and celebrated by your business!

Community forms around food and drink and your participation in Dine OUT for Equality can have a big impact in helping build a stronger community for all of us.

Last year, 44 pro-equality businesses in 17 towns and cities across Maine participated in the first-ever Dine OUT for Equality and in partnership with our members and communities, donated over $15,000 to EqualityMaine! We are thrilled to make this an annual tradition and hope to reach more communities around the state.
