EqualityMaine Seeks Development & Communications Associate

EqualityMaine has an immediate, full-time job opening for a Development & Communications Associate. We are looking for an energetic and self-motivated individual to join our efforts to defend and advance full equality for LGBTQ+ people in Maine. The position will be based in Portland and will report to the Development Director.

About EqualityMaine
Founded in 1984, EqualityMaine is the voice of public education and advocacy for LGBTQ+ people in Maine. As part of a broader social justice movement, we work in coalition with organizations in Maine and around the country. EqualityMaine currently employs five full-time staff.

About the Position
The Development & Communications Associate will play an integral role in fostering a development program that seeks to actively engage donors, volunteers, community partners, and prospective members in the mission and work of EqualityMaine. This is a dynamic position that includes fundraising, development and communications responsibilities with a strong connection to our community education and advocacy work across the state.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Track and process donations and prepare acknowledgement letters and other correspondence with donors
  • Manage and grow EQME’s monthly donor program
  • Coordinate annual mailings to individual and institutional donors
  • Assist in maintaining EQME’s website and in developing content for print and electronic communications  
  • Assist in the development and implementation of EQME’s social media strategy  
  • Assist in special event planning, promotion and execution  
  • Oversee recruitment, training and retention of volunteers
  • Support EQME’s Queer Network - a community building program for LGBTQ+ folks in their twenties and thirties
  • Coordinate community outreach and engagement events that bring new folks into our work
  • Assist with grant applications and reports as well as prospecting for new funding sources
  • Gather statistics and data to create various reports related to program evaluation and fundraising  
  • Maintain all contact management databases and systems​

Other Responsibilities

  • Attend staff meetings, other administrative meetings and events  
  • Assist with educational programming implementation as needed  
  • Perform other duties as assigned by EQME’s Development Director

Required Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated individual with creative problem solving skills, and ability to organize and prioritize work and meet critical deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and eagerness to work in a team environment
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Drupal or similar website management software, social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Hootsuite) and willingness to learn new applications
  • Close attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission and work of EqualityMaine
  • Cultural competency
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work flexible hours, including limited evenings and weekends
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

  • Fundraising
  • Event planning and management experience
  • Innovation in marketing and promotions, including graphic design and video production
  • Volunteer management experience including recruitment, training and retention
  • Experience with virtual programming

Compensation
Salary range is $33,000 - $41,000 and will be based on lived and learned experience. Benefits include paid time off, individual employer-provided health insurance as well as vision and dental insurance, and a retirement plan with employer contribution.
