Darlene Huntress is a 7th-generation Mainer who recently returned home after spending the last nine years in Oregon. During her time away from Maine, Darlene spent four years working as a regional organizer for The Alliance for a Just Society, a national organization that develops and helps implement strategic campaigns, education and trainings for statewide social justice organizations and partners across the country. In 2015, Darlene co-founded and served as Associate Director for Unite Oregon, a statewide social justice organization that empowers and trains people of color, immigrants, refugees, rural communities, and people experiencing poverty to lead campaigns across Oregon that build a unified intercultural movement for justice. Prior to her time in Oregon, Darlene worked for EqualityMaine for six years, first as the Statewide Field Organizer and then as Public Policy Director. Darlene was also the Northern Maine Regional Organizer for the 2005 Maine Won’t Discriminate campaign, and Statewide Field Director for the 2009 Protect Maine Equality campaign.

Darlene is now retired and lives in Hollis with her wife Melissa.
