Advocacy Internship

If you’re interested in politics and/or public policy, our Advocacy Internship might be for you. As an intern you can help us protect our laws and policies from attack and promote bills and policies that support our mission. This internship has the possibility of starting in January and will allow you to learn about our legislative and policy advocacy, get to know state representatives and senators, organize public interest, and provide ample opportunity to learn firsthand about Maine’s political process.

Requirements: We are seeking enthusiastic interns who are passionate about our mission and possess the following attributes:

  • Interest in social justice and politics
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and computer-literate
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently
  • Experience working with youth and adults
  • Dependable and responsible
  • Demonstrated experience/knowledge related to the internship(s) for which you are applying.

Time requirements: Schedules can be flexible, but interns should be available at least 8-10 hours per week in our Portland office, with some occasional evening and weekend hours. We strongly encourage interns to arrange course credit from their school if possible. Internships are not paid positions. All interns will be encouraged to create a portfolio project over the course of their internship.

To apply:  Send a cover letter and resume to Christopher O’Connor, Development Director at coconnor@equalitymaine.org.
