We sent out the following email to our base today about CA's Supreme Court upholding Prop 8:

Today the California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8 -- the ballot measure that took away the right of gay and lesbian couples to marry in California.  While this decision is deeply disappointing, we know Maine is on a different course.

Since we launched our effort to win marriage, thousands of Mainers have joined our campaign in support of marriage for all Maine families.  The Legislature and the Governor followed the people’s lead and Maine became the fifth state in the country to end discrimination in marriage for same-sex couples.

But the fight is not over.  Opponents of marriage equality want to roll back the clock.  They are working to place a measure on the ballot – modeled after Proposition 8 – to take away the right of gay and lesbian couples to marry in Maine.

We are fighting back, but we need your support.

Winning a referendum campaign will require more money than we’ve ever raised before.  EqualityMaine is ready.  We’ve already hit the ground running.  We have an organizing staff working throughout the state, continuing to talk directly with voters on the phone and at the door.  But this campaign takes resources.

Make an investment to protect marriage equality today.

This fight will take everything we have, but with your help, we know we will be victorious.
