The other week we got an email from someone who had been planning to get married this year (prior to the final Question 1 results). He decided that despite the outcome of the vote last November, he was going to do it anyway. He came to us with the idea of getting together a group of like-minded couples to put ads in the Celebrations section of the newspaper.

Well we loved the idea and have now put together an information packet for other couples, parents and celebrators of life who would like to submit their announcements to local papers as well. Be it engagement, commitment ceremony, anniversary or a new baby, our families all have something to celebrate. So you decided to get married in Massachusetts or New Hampshire? Well your Maine friends and family want to see that announcement too.

Now I understand that some papers charge for these announcements and you may not be able to afford it. One thing you can do for free is write letters to the editor. However you decide to, please continue to share your life experiences with those you know, and especially those you don’t know. It is through shared life experiences that we get to know and relate to people we might not otherwise.

As we move forward through 2010, we will be updating this website with more resources and tools for you to reach out to your community. As a small staff of 7, we are going to be more dependent on our supporters to help us continue to educate the community on the importance of marriage equality. If you think of any particular tools that would be beneficial to you, please contact us and let us know. Currently under construction are guides to writing letters to the editor, having marriage equality conversations, and submitting celebration announcements.
