This past Monday we held our Community Conversation in Bangor.   It was so amazing and inspiring!  We knew we were going to have a lot of people, but the people just kept on coming in. When the conversation got underway, there was standing room only inside the church.  One hundred and twenty four people showed up to learn more about the next phase of our campaign!  This kind of turnout would not have been possible without the tireless work of our great volunteer team over the weekend who made multiple rounds of confirm calls and emails to the people who signed up online.

People from Penobscot county, and all over Maine, had the opportunity to come together and talk about what our plans are for protecting marriage and families in Maine.  I was so excited that even a bunch of my fantastic volunteers from Knox County drove up to see what the next phase is going to look like.

We started the evening by celebrating the success of the legislative campaign, and then we transitioned into talking about the referendum campaign and the next steps. Monique went over the new campaign messaging and our new blue postcard campaign. (yes, we have resurrected the blue postcards) And then Matt went through the nitty gritty of the numbers, which I love! Knowing exactly how many people we need to win makes me so happy because it really is a realistic goal.

Next up Gabi and I thanked our amazing leadership teams from the legislative campaign and invited everyone in the room to join us for the next phase to make sure we protect what we fought so hard for this spring. It was great to have so many people signing up for events over the next two weeks. Then I had to make my money pitch. It was wonderful seeing people’s hands go up to give money to the campaign because sometimes the pitch goes over like a lead balloon, but not Monday night.

I think the whole night made people realize how important they are to winning this campaign and got them invested in being part of the team to make the victory in November happen. Since the meeting people have been stepping up all over the place and taking on more responsibility than ever before. The night really got me pumped up to start working with all the people there and really getting them in the door to an action.

And now, time to make some volunteer recruitment calls for my Saturday canvass…
